Useful and Beautiful:
The Life of
Dorothy Wright Liebes

Meet Dorothy Wright Liebes
Dorothy Wright Liebes was renowned for her weaving, textile design, color artistry, and experimentation with innovative fibers from the mid-1930s until her death in 1972.
She dominated women’s magazines, was featured in newsreels, television and radio programs, and created the “Liebes Look,” a modern aesthetic we still embrace without even knowing her name.

My biography, Useful and Beautiful: The Life of Dorothy Wright Liebes, will build on the interest generated by a recent exhibit of Liebes’s work by telling the story of how she became the “First Lady of the Loom,” dedicated to making beauty affordable for every home in America.
